BRICKTOWN TREE LIGHTING FESTIVAL
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 23 / 5PM-7PM
One of the year’s most anticipated annual events, the Bricktown Tree Lighting Festival presented by SONIC, will take place the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 23, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event serves as the kickoff to the holiday season, as Mayor David Holt lights the Christmas Tree with Santa Claus. The first Tree Lighting Festival took place in 2002, and has since grown to include a live band, food trucks, face painting, and free visits with Santa. The festival will be held on the 3rd Base Plaza at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark (2 S. Mickey Mantle Dr.), and is free and open to the public.
Lyric Theatre’s cast from A Christmas Carol will begin our performances by singing carols, followed by a student from the Lyric Theatre Academy to sing an Oklahoma-favorite, “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.” New this year, the east Asian Sainrithya Dance Academy will be performing two dances. The Kalakshetra dance form was founded by Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale in Adyar, Chennai in 1936. This style of dance is noted for its highly intricate and complex footwork along with angular, straight, and ballet-like kinestetics.
Joined by Santa Claus, Mayor Holt will take the stage at 6:00 p.m. to light the Christmas tree. Announcing Mayor Holt to the stage will be Jabee. Jabee will be making a special appearance and will perform a short holiday-themed set. Junction Coffee and Hijos Taqueria food trucks will be available for purchase.
